Lasinski on Gov. Whitmer directing MDEQ to establish enforceable PFAS standards

LANSING — Gov. Whitmer announced yesterday that she is directing the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to develop and issue an enforceable drinking water standard for PFAS. Gov. Whitmer has made addressing the mounting environmental crises the state faces one of her top priorities after years of inaction from legislative leadership. In response, state Rep. Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) issued the following response:

“No one should ever have to worry about the safety of their water, but that has become the unfortunate reality for far too many families across our state. As crisis after crisis continues to plague our state, we cannot wait for the Federal government to weigh in — we need to act now. We need enforceable PFAS standards that hold polluters accountable and protect our communities. Gov. Whitmer has wasted no time putting her newly-created PFAS Action Response Team to work, and I will continue fighting for higher clean water standards in the Legislature.”
