DETROIT – The following is a statement by State Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) in response to today's decision by the 36th District Court that the Ambassador Bridge Company has 90 days to vacate Southwest Detroit's Riverside Park.
"Finally, justice has been served – this is a major victory for Southwest Detroit," Tlaib said. "The Ambassador Bridge Company stole a piece of our community and held it hostage for years. Riverside Park should be a healthy, vibrant community resource where families can gather and enjoy our city, not the playground of a billion dollar mega-corporation that tries to do whatever it pleases. Our community came together to raise its voice, demand the right to clean air, healthy and safe neighborhoods and accountability for an unwelcome neighbor. That's what we received today, and I couldn't be more proud. This is yet another devastating blow in the bridge company's attempt to ignore laws, take shortcuts and step on and over our residents just to increase their bottom line."
